In August 1980, Natale and Antonia Pellicano took over the shop on the coner Schauenburgerstrasse/Zürcherstrasse and named it "Au Gourmet". The offering consisted of foods, household goods, tobacco, fruits and vegetables etc. In Addition, they offered a selection of specialities from their homeland. The demand for Italian foods increased steadily, and "Au Gourmet" became "Sapori d'Italia". Arnound this time, Natale Pellicano began to offer his culinary skills at various events, and he developed a unique catering concept renowned in Basel for its freshness and quality. In January 2005, Natale's son Gabriel returned from a 3-year stay in London, where he worked as "Provisions-Specialist" at Fortnum and Mason, to take over the business.
